Our hiking designers have designed this NH500 waterproof jacket for regular hiking on lowlands, in the forest or on the coast in rainy weather.
How waterproof is it?
This jacket uses a certified 5,000 mm H2O (Schmerbers) coating, according to the JIS 1092 standard. This Schmerbers value is an indication of its ability to withstand the pressure of a 5-metre column of water. In practical terms, this keeps you protected during light and prolonged rain, ideal for your demanding adventures.
What is water repellency?
Water-repellency is a surface treatment that sees water slide off the surface rather than be absorbed by it. Score: your jacket remains lightweight, with optimal breathability. We’ve strengthened this protection by making the main rain-exposed seams waterproof.
How does this jacket breathe?
This jacket efficiently wicks away perspiration thanks to its RET of 12. RET measures Thermal Evaporative Resistance: the lower the score, the better. Scale: <6 = extremely breathable, <12 = highly breathable, <20 = breathable, >20 = not very breathable. You remain dry, even during prolonged periods of exertion.
How can I maintain the waterproofing?
Optimise the durability of its water-repellency: reactivate every 3 washes (thorough rinsing is a must) or after 10 uses in the rain. Effective methods: 15 minutes in the tumble dryer on a synthetic programme, a hair dryer from 20 cm away, or temperate iron without steam. Efficiency maintained!
Choosing a jacket according to your level of physical exertion?
The intensity of the exertion determines the extent of perspiration transfer: if breathability is insufficient, vapour condenses inside (saturation effect). This jacket is suitable for day-long hikes up to 5 km/hr, at an intermediate level. Adapt your equipment to your goals!
What products should be paired with this jacket?
For optimised protection, pair this jacket with our NH500 overtrousers for men, for a comprehensive system. Jacket + trousers set = full body protection against the wind and showers. This “full-kit” approach maximises efficiency while still offering mobility and technical comfort.
How to maintain your jacket's waterproof quality and durability
To maintain a durable water-repellent fabric, we recommend reactivating it regularly.
Do this every three washes (it is important to rinse abundantly) or after a dozen uses in the rain.
You can easily reactivate the water repellent property by warming the fabric:
- in a tumble dryer for 15 minutes (synthetic program) - with a hair dryer at a distance of 20 cm by going back and forth twice
- or two passes with an iron on the delicate setting without the steam function.
Choose your waterproof jacket according to your sports effort
During sports activity, the extent to which we perspire depends on the intensity or the duration of the physical effortIf the breathability of the fabric is not adapted to your type of physical activity, the perspiration vapour condenses inside the jacketYou will feel damp insidethis is not rain coming through but perspiration vapour condensingSo you need to choose your jacket according to your type of physical activityThis jacket is designed for the occasional one-day hike at a speed of 5 km/h
Recommended additional product
To protect the lower body as well and have a very effective outfit to protect you against the wind and showers, we recommend the men's NH500 over-trousers. These over-trousers are also eco-designed (depending on the colour, a bulk dyeing process that reduces the consumption of water or recycled fibres are used)
Preparation is something we take seriously. This waterproof jacket's been tested against a 5m barrage of rain. With 4 sealed pockets and a breathable lining, it'll keep you trekking in all weathers.
