Roof bar compatibility

Compatible with approved roof bars for a load greater than 75 kg (dynamic weight). The usable width is 78 cm, the distance between the roof and the top of the roof bar must be greater than 7.5 cm and the width of the roof bar tube must be less than 9.5 cm (see the diagrams in the product sheet photos).Check that your roof bars and tent are properly fastened each time you use it.It’s not compatible with longitudinal roof bars.

What are dynamic and static loads?

This tent needs a 75 kg load capacity, a so-called "dynamic" load, i.e. when the vehicle is moving. When the vehicle is stationary, the maximum static load capacity is much higher.Don't worry, once installed and stationary, your roof bars will be able to support the roof tent, as well as the weight of the people inside (200 kg in total).

Pitching/striking

Watch the pitching tutorial video and/or read the instructions in the product bag carefully.Remove the cover and unclip the two side buckles.Grab the ladder and use it to tilt the tent.Adjust the ladder so that the tent is flat, and properly secure the bars, so that they are locked in place before you can stand on them.To dismantle, use the ladder to fold up the tent, close the side buckles and put the cover back on.

Roof Tent MH500 Fresh & Black 2P

Looking for this tent for my Toyota Conquest Hilux 2022, please need recommendation. Thanks

A good tent, with some important caveats.

We bought this tent for 3 reasons: (i) the Fresh & Black fabric technology (ii) innovative instant opening system (iii) the 5-year Decathlon guarantee The previous price of £999 also helped swing the decision. The tent was ordered in store and delivered to our house. There is a bit of setup when you first get it e.g., attaching the rails and ladder mounts to the bottom of the tent. Use this time to clean out any metal shavings leftover from manufacturing to prevent damage to the tent fabric. I think Decathlon had issues with the quality of the textured bottom panels you still see in the images, so do not be surprised if yours comes with a smooth black base as ours did. The mounting hardware is basic, but adequate. Securing the tent can be tricky depending on how much clearance there is under your roof bars, but it gets easier with practice. The cover has held up well to rain and sun with no noticeable fading. It is fastened via a bead on the front which you slide into a rail in the base of the tent, as well as several elastic straps. It is secure and does not flap, even at motorway speeds. Once the cover is off, setup takes about 20 seconds. Not having to fiddle with window awnings and being able to climb straight into the tent is an amazing feeling, especially if the weather is bad. The telescopic ladder is high quality, and the included shoe bag comfortably fits 2 pairs of mid cut boots. Inside, the fresh and black technology works well and keeps the tent very cool and dark. When the windows are open, the treehouse view is delightful. The mattress is comfortable and there are also plenty of storage pockets internally. Note that the bug mesh is permanently fixed to the tent body so you cannot open a window to pass items out of/into the tent. It is a very breezy tent by design. The side panels have vents that cannot be closed while all windows close from the bottom up, but only on 3 sides, leaving the tops open. The downside is that in wind and rain, of which we have our fair share in the UK, gusts can blow open the tiny Velcro tabs that hold the windows closed and slowly unzip them. This makes it easier for rainwater blowing against the tent to ingress through the windows. Also, the tent’s entrance has storm flaps that only cover the lower half of the zippers so water can ingress via the zips as well. I will say to any potential buyer: look closely at the promotional pictures for this product. This is a tent for a light weekend getaway. For a more versatile tent, Decathlon’s newer MH900 roof top tent looks to have made important design improvements affecting the cover, mounting brackets, doors, and storm flaps which will probably work better in inclement weather. Perhaps some of these changes will trickle down to this tent in future. Decathlon’s customer care and support for this product has been superb with accessories and spare parts available for purchase. They also stand behind their products so you can buy with confidence.

Great Tent

Quick to assemble, comfortable and spacious. Five minutes to put up and down. Quality is also very good.
